TEST YOUR BRAIN AND BE A KID AGAIN!
Let's imagine you're a kid again learning to read
And you needed a jolt to own the words starting with just a tiny seed
Make it work with all the sounds and with any kind of lenses
On the following paragraphs, you've got to use some senses
The goal is to DISCOVER without getting caught on the tenses.
I can't understand what a trick word is
That veers from my rules and will not fit my quiz
So I dance and twirl around each word with some tools
My goal is to figure out which ones break the rules
DISCOVER ONLY ONE TRICK WORD PER LINE
Look at the words on these lines, as my crony
Like "lucky" and "pony" and what about "phony"?
How can you tell without trying to be "funny"
Why some words do one thing and some do the others
In terms of doubling or not, help my out "sonny"!
WHAT IS YOUR DISCOVERY WHEN TO DOUBLE?
And what about a word like "hopped"?
We look at words like "flowered"," towered", and "mopped".
Starting to wonder about what that "ed" says and when
Is there a pattern of sorts to analyze with a pen?
What about "rained", "licked", and "slanted"
And just when you're getting it, add in "ranted"
Then when you've finally just about feeling miffed
Take on a word like "mobbed" and sniffed.
I'll give you a hint, to make me seem less of a clown
The 3 possible sounds are /t/, /d/ and /id/ to narrow it down
All you've got to do is touch your throat is feel
And if that doesn't work, just close your ears and let the sounds do their deal
WHAT IS YOUR DISCOVERY FOR
